Invest in the future of the Republican Party

The 1964 Society

National TARS was founded in December 1964 in the wake of Senator Barry Goldwater's campaign for President of the United States. Although Goldwater did not win the presidency, his campaign inspired a generation of young Americans and helped launch the modern conservative movement.

Determined to continue that momentum, high school students across the country organized to support Republican principles and become active leaders in their communities. From that vision, the Teen Age Republicans (TARS) was born.

For more than 60 years, National TARS has served as the training ground for the next generation of Republican leaders. Hundreds of thousands of students have developed leadership skills, gained campaign experience, and built lifelong connections through TARS. Our alumni have gone on to serve in elected office, work on political campaigns, lead businesses, strengthen local communities, and champion conservative values across America.
